Background The photocycloaddition reactions of acetylene esters to the fused heterocycles benzo [b] thiophene and benzo [b]-furan are fraught with unusual rearrangemenkl Benzo [b] thiophene and its alkyl derivatives with acetylene esters give secondary photochemical allylic rearrangement products, and these are formed as the major isolable photoprcducts; 24 benzo [b] furans give allylic rearrangement products as well as those deriving from ...
