Abstract

Beckmann and Paul'found that only one atom of sodium reacted with a molecule of benzil, CaH6COCOCaH5, and gave a violet colored solid; Nef obtained the same product and considered that it was a molecular complex formed from a molecule each of benzil and benzil-disodium while Schlenk and Tha13 believed it was a free radical.
