Abstract

Benzylic and allylic alcohols were deoxygenatively dimerized by a treatment with lanthanum metal and chlorotrimethylsilane in the presence of a catalytic amount of iodine, giving the corresponding coupling products, alkanes, in moderate-to-good yields.
