Abstract

It was shown by Baeyer3 that diphenylphthalin (triphenylmethane-2-carboxylic acid) is converted rapidly, by concentrated sulfuric acid, into 9-phenylanthrone-10 (or 9-phenyl-10- hydroxyanthracene) and that oxidation of the latter yields 9-hydroxy-9-phenylanthrone-10.
