Abstract We evaluated the potential of N, N-dimethylformamide dimethylacetal (DMF-DMA) as a methylating agent for a library of para-substituted phenols under microwave irradiation. The rate of reaction was dictated by the electronic nature of the para-substituent. With an electron-withdrawing group the reaction was completed within 30 min.
