The direct formation of α-methylene-β-amino acid derivatives is achieved using the aza version of the Baylis-Hillman protocol. The products are readily formed in a three-component one-pot reaction between arylaldehydes, sulfonamides, and α, β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.
