I 11 kylene gr0up.~ 1~ In order to determine the influence, if any, of a-alkyl substitution on the course of the Clemmensen reduction of a-aminoketones, a series of 1-methyl-3- piperidones has been studied in which the a-carbon was unsubstituted, monoalkyl- substituted, and dialkyl-substituted.
