Non-natural functional groups, tethered to DNA, provide a chemical handle for the site- specific attachment of reporter and effector elements. Herein we report a general strategy for the synthesis of oligodeoxynucleotides bearing tethered functionality (functionally tethered oligonucleotides, FTOs).
