Soldiers of the advanced genera of rhinotermitids (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) produce lipophilic contact insecticides formally derived from fatty acids. Each of these defense substances possesses a reactive electrophilic center (vinyl ketone, nitroalkene, or β- ketoaldehyde) responsible for toxicity.
