4106 JULIAN W. HILL Vol. 54 anhydride for six hours. The excess acetic anhydride and the acetic acid formed in the reaction were removed by distillation in vacuo up to 120 O bath temperature. The resulting polyanhydride" was dissolved in 400 cc. of warm, dry benzene.
