吡嗪羧酸是吡嗪酰胺的活性代谢物。Pyrazinamidean 是一种抗结核剂。在这个用于评估促尿酸药物作用的模型中，丙磺舒减少了吡嗪羧酸的尿排泄，表明尿酸盐和吡嗪羧酸的尿排泄之间呈负相关。在体外研究中，用吡嗪羧酸处理大鼠肾刷状缘膜的囊泡会增加尿酸盐的摄取，而尿酸盐摄取会被排尿酸药物抑制。PZA（吡嗪酰胺）在植物细胞中转化为吡嗪羧酸 (POA)，抑制 1-氨基环丙烷-1-羧酸氧化酶 (ACO) 的活性，该酶催化乙烯形成的最后一步。
