Biological Activity

[Description]:

4-Hydroxyphenylbutazone is a metabolite of Phenylbutazone. Phenylbutazone, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is an efficient reducing cofactor for the peroxidase activity of prostaglandin H synthase (PHS)[1].

4-hydroxyphenylbutazone is isolated from incubations of phenylbutazone with either ram seminal vesicle microsomes or horseradish peroxidase. 4-hydroxyphenylbutazone is ineffective inhibitor of PHS cyclooxygenase[1].
