Abstract
Abstract Condensation of substituted benzoic acids with benzene in the presence of aluminium chloride is found to be possible, in general, only in the case of ortho-substituted acids. No reaction could be obtained with benzoic acid itself, with meta-or para-toluic acids, or, somewhat unexpectedly, with 2, 4, 6-trimethylbenzoic acid.
