Abstract

Graphical abstract Photophysical/photochemical properties of 5-aminoquinoline (5AQ) have been investigated. In aprotic solvents, the spectra depend on the polarity. However, in protic solvents both the fluorescence intensity as well decay times show decrease depending on the hydrogen bonding ability of the solvent. The results suggest that photochemistry of 5AQ is quite sensitive towards the polarity as well as protic character of the solvent.
