Abstract
Abstract:[4.2. 2] Propella-3, 7-diene (l), the most highly strained unsaturated propellane known to date, has been synthesized. Treatment of cis-l, 6-bis (methanesulfonyloxymethyl) bicyclo [4.2. O] oct-3-ene with sodium sulfide in anhydrous hexamethylphosphoramide gave 8-thia [4.3. 2] propell-3-ene (9, chlorination-oxidation of which afforded a mixture of a-chloro sulfones 6 (68%) and 7 (32%).
