Abstract

Several reports in the chemical literature have demonstrated the potentiating effect of an NOH moiety on the antibacterial properties of an arylsulfonamide. For example, N- hydroxybenzenesulfonamide is more potent against Mycobacterium tuberculosis than is benzenesulfonamide'and several N4-acyl-N'-hydroxybenzenesulfonamides are more effective against &hemolytic streptococci in mice than is sulfanilamide itself.'Furthermore, ...
