Abstract

Summary Liquid hydrogen fluoride is an excellent reagent for the cyclization of a number of y-arylbutyric acids and P-arylpropionic acids. A particularly significant use of the reagent is in the preparation of 1, 2-benz-lO-anthrones by the cyclization of appropriate acids, for these important intermediates in the synthesis of carcinogenic hydrocarbons keto form.
