Abstract

Results Reduction Products. Reduction of quinolinium ions (1) with NaBH, in water or a water-methanol mixture generally gives mixtures of substituted 1, 2-(2) and 1, 4- dihydroquinolines (3) in which the 1, 2-isomers predominate. The relative amounts of the isomers present in the initial product mixture were determined from its' H NMR spectrum, as described in the Experimental Section.
