Abstract

Abstract Hexamethyl-2-sila-1, 3-dioxolane reacts with an excess of isopropanol according to a first-order rate law. The reaction is acid-catalyzed, with a linear relation between the rate constant and the concentration of catalyst. The ring opening is fast, and is followed by a rate- determining step to give the products.
