Abstract

N-Acyl-a-amino acid phenylhydrazides have been prepared in the papain-catalyzed resolution of amino acids2 and as intermediates in the enzymatic synthesis of dipeptide^.^ We have recently shown that carbobenzoxy (Cbzo) amino acid phenylhydrazides react with alcoholic potassium hydroxide to give X-carboxyphenylhydrazido amino acids.
