Abstract

Alexander4) reduced N-benzylideneaniline with the formate reagent, which was prepared by evaporation of aqueous formic acid solution neutralized with triethylamine, in fair yield of benzylaniline hydrochloride. From this laboratory the several salts, which may be represented by the general formula 5HCOOH• 2NR3 and which are polar liquids of constant high boiling point, have been developed as reducing agents.
