Abstract

I 11 crowding at the 1 carbon atom might be dispensed with altogether. This postulates the existence of a stable enol of type 11. Reports have been made, in fact, of the isolation of certain diarylacetaldehydes in the corresponding enol forms. These claims, however, have not been substantiated.
