Abstract

Results The original reactions of isobutyraldehyde with formaldehyde and primary amine hydrochlorides were reported in 1932 by Mannich and Wiedera4 When they used the hydrochloride salts of small amines, such as methylamine, they found that a novel dimer, 8a, of the desired secondary/?-amino aldehyde, 4a, was formed in 40% yield.
