Abstract

The reaction of trimethylene oxide with amines in aqueous solution at room temperature is very slow, contrary to a previous report. At elevated temperatures, however, good yields of 3- hydroxypropylamines are obtained, from both primary and secondary amines, except when the latter is sterically hindered.
