Abstract

The decomposition of ClO2 in basic solution proceeds by three concurrent pathways. One pathway forms ClO2-and O2 (pathway 2) and is of greater importance at low ClO2 concentrations. The other two pathways (pathways 1 and 3) form equimolar levels of ClO2- and ClO3-. All pathways exhibit first-order dependence in OH-but have variable order in ClO2.
