Abstract

Although arylglycines are nonproteinogenic amino acids, they me found in a number of important biologically active compounds, including the vancomycins,'amoxicillins, 2 nocardicina? and cephalecina.'The asymmetric synthesie of this class of compounds6 ie complicated by the lability of the a-proton, and syntheses involving basic conditions are compromised by attendant racemization.
