2-Amino-3-cyano-5-ohloromethylpyrazine 1-oxide (2), prepared by the condensation of p- chloropyruvaldoxime with aminomalononitrile tosylate, was deoxygenated with phosphorus trichloride to 2-amino-3-cyano-5-chloromethylpyrazine (4).
