1. 毒理和苯酚相似,而且是更强的腐蚀剂。对皮肤有强烈刺激作用。易于经皮肤吸收。对血液循环和肾脏有毒害作用。此外,还能引起眼角膜损伤。虽然致死量不明确,但有外用3~4g而死亡的病例。生产设备要密闭、防泄漏,溅到皮肤上需及时洗净。车间应通风,设备应密闭。操作人员应穿戴防护用具。
2. 可燃,久贮颜色逐渐变深,在空气中稳定,但暴露在太阳光下时颜色逐渐变深。加热升华,有刺激性苯酚气味
3. 存在于烟气中。
4. 水溶液与三氯化铁作用显绿色。

【方法一】
其制备方法是在140℃将硫酸加入熔融萘中,在162~164℃进行磺化,将磺化物水解,吹去游离萘,用亚硫酸钠与其反应使生成2-萘磺酸钠盐,该钠盐固体和氢氧化钠于285~320℃进行碱熔,然后在320~330℃保温1h,将碱熔物稀释后通入二氧化硫进行酸化得粗制品,洗涤脱水后蒸馏而得产品。
【方法二】
磺化碱熔法
将精萘置于磺化锅,加热(熔融)至140℃。在20min内加入1.085倍(摩尔比)浓硫酸,升温,并在160~164℃下保温2.5h。当2-萘磺酸含量达66%以上、总酸度为25%~27%时结束反应。磺化物于水解锅中在140~150℃下水解1h。然后在中和锅中,在80~90℃下用亚硫酸氢钠溶液中和至刚果红试纸不变蓝为止。用蒸汽和空气驱除SO2气体,降温至30~40℃后吸滤,并用10%的食盐水洗涤后再吸滤得2-萘磺酸钠。
将氢氧化钠置于碱熔锅中,加热(熔融)至290℃,在约3h内将2-萘磺酸钠加入,直至游离碱含量为5%~6%为止。之后,于320~330℃下保温1h。碱熔物稀释于水中,在70~80℃下通SO2至酚酞无色。加水煮洗,除去亚硫酸钠,再经脱水、减压蒸馏得成品,总收率为73%~74%。
2-异丙萘法
以萘和丙烯为原料,在生产2-萘酚的同时副产丙酮。
【方法三】

【方法四】
由萘经磺化、碱熔制得。磺化碱熔法是国内外广泛采用的生产方法,但腐蚀严重,成本较高,废水生物氧耗量高。美国氰胺公司开发的2-异丙萘法,以萘和丙烯为原料,在生产2-萘酚的同时副产丙酮,这方法与异丙苯法制苯酚的情况类似。原料消耗定额:精萘1170kg/t、硫酸1080kg/t、固体烧碱700kg/t。
