目前主要用于三方面。（1）用作水玻璃系浆料以1,3-二氧杂环戊酮、碳酸氢钾分别作为固化剂和速结剂制备无公害的水玻璃系浆料，由于丙烯酰胺，尿素体系的浆料被禁用，水玻璃系浆料受到普遍的重视。（2）用于合成呋喃唑酮（C8H7N3O5，[67-45-8]；这是一种广谱抗菌药，用于预防鸡的球虫病。（3）用作纤维整理剂和其他加工助剂。

碳酸乙烯酯制备

1.由环氧乙烷与二氧化碳反应而得。

精制方法：减压精馏，馏出物溶于醚中，冷却、结晶、过滤，再用无水醚进行重结晶可得纯品。

2.在装有搅拌器、分镭柱的三颈瓶中加入800毫升(6 .6摩尔)碳酸二乙醋和335毫升(6.0摩尔)乙二醇，加热搅拌至反应液温度达100一105℃及二液层相互混溶.取下搅拌器，加入0.3克无水碳酸钾和一些碎磁片，加热以蒸出乙醇，分镭柱顶端温度以不超过80℃为宜，约可蒸出98%肠理论量的乙醇。冷却，将蒸馏残余物溶于300毫升无水乙醇，过滤，在冰浴中充分冷却，再过滤，用乙醚洗涤晶体。无水乙f重结晶，置盛有五氧化二磷的真空干燥器中干燥得产品，产率51一55%。
