精制方法：乳酸甲酯易水解，常含有游离的乳酸、甲醇和水等杂质。游离的酸可用碱中和后洗涤除去。水分可通过与苯组成的共沸混合物进行共沸蒸馏除去。然后在减压下蒸馏精制。由于氯化钙等与乳酸甲酯形成分子化合物，故不能用作干燥剂。乳酸甲酯与水混合时，可用苯、乙醚等萃取回收。与其他液体混合时，一般用蒸馏的方法回收。
