有机合成中作氯化剂，抗菌素药物的中间体。

主要应用在普通有机合成如制药,芳香剂合成,农化品中,也用于合成炔诺酮生物制药等有机合成中。N-氯代丁二酰亚胺（128-09-6）也可作为一种表面处理剂,改善有机合成纤维的性能,并使之不易褪色。

将4.96g（0.05mol）丁二酰亚胺溶于17ml乙酸和15ml水的混合溶剂中，在搅拌下加入5.6g（0.05mol）次氯酸叔丁酯（见本书第43页），然后在0℃静置1h.析出沉淀，过滤，固体真空干燥，得2.07g,产率31.3%。熔点149~150℃。
