Summary Cinnamic aldehyde when heated with glycerol and a small amount of 40% sulfuric acid under reduced pxessure readily condenses to give a pasty crystalline mixture of isomeric five- and six-membered cinnamylidene glycerols. From the crude material a crystalline solid and an oil can be readily separated, the former of which is shown to be the six-membered acetal (1,l'-cinnamylidene glycerol) and the latter the five-membered deriva- tive (1,2- ...
