Aryl oxazolines as a vehicle for the elaboration of suitably functionalized aromatic rings has been demonstrated by this group and others during the past 12 years. l As a functional protecting group for carboxylic acids, the oxazoline plays an important role in carbon-carbon bond forming reactions.
