In the reduction of the l-benzylpiperidone, there was no rapid initial absorption of hydrogen and both the ring and the ketone group seemed to reduce simultaneously. The reduction to a negative ferric chloride test took place in about 24 hours and required 65-75y0 of the theoretical amount of hydrogen necessary for the complete reduction of both the ring and ketone group.
