Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen or indomethacin are widely used in the treatment of pain and inflammatory diseases [1]. Their clinical efficacy is closely related to their ability to inhibit both COX-1 and COX-2 isoforms of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) also referred to as prostaglandin H 2 synthase since it catalyses the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H 2 (PGH 2 ) [2].
