A highly efficient synthesis of civetone has been performed by joining two crucial reactions;(a) Ti-Claisen condensation and (b) intramolecular olefin metathesis using Grubbs' reagent. This synthesis includes not only a stepwise method (A) but also a one-pot method (B).
