Abstract An efficient preparation of pinacol iodomethaneboronate and dibutyl iodomethaneboronate from the respective (phenylthio) methaneboronic esters has been devised, using the reaction with methyl iodide. Pinacol iodomethaneboronate reacts efficiently wit tertiary amines to form the crystalline quaternary ammonium salts.
