Abstract: The synthesis of CP*~ R~ H (Cp*= $-C5Me5) from Re vapor and CSMeSH and its photochemical conversion into CP*~ R~ are described. The X-ray crystal structure of the latter has been determined and shows the molecule to possess the parallel ring, eclipsed, sandwich structure (space group R1/m, a= 8.620 (3), b= 14.593 (5), c= 7.923 (3) A, 2= 2, refinement on 1871 reflections, R,= 0.037).
