An efficient and selective method for methoxymethylation of alcohols and phenols with formaldehyde dimethyl acetal (FDMA) catalyzed by electron deficient tin (IV) tetraphenylporphyrinato trifluoromethanesulfonate,[SnIV (TPP)(OTf) 2], is reported.
