Various 2, 2, 2-trifluoroethyl onium triflates were synthesized by treating tertiary amines, pyridines, quinoline, a triazole, sulfides, and a phosphine with (2, 2, 2-trifluoroethyl) phenyliodonium triflate. Sulfoxides and N-oxide were converted to the corresponding trifluoroethylated salts.
