As a part of a program directed toward the syn-thesis of compounds containing carbon-to- carbon bonds between sugars and other molecule^,^ 1, 2-0-isopropylidene-3-0-benzyl-5, B- anhydro-D-glucose4 (I) was treated with excess methyllithium in ether solution.-In exothermic reaction occurred and there was obtained by high vacuum distillation a colorless levorotatory sirup I1 having the analysis corresponding to the formula CI6H20O4.
