Cationic iron carbonyl complexes of cyclohexadienes are versatile building blocks due to the fact that a wide range of nucleophiles can react with the cationic functionality, yielding new carbon–carbon or carbon–heteroatom bonds. 13 In addition, the diene moiety liberated after oxidative decomplexation allows for further transformations.
