Other workers have shown that the course of the catalytic hydrogenation of substituted acetylenes is profoundly influenced both by the nature of the substituents and by the catalyst employed. With platinum catalysts, 2 in general, there is no change in the velocity of hydrogenation when two atoms of hydrogen have been absorbed, while with the less active palladium catalysts, 2~ 3 there is frequently a great diminution in velocity, and it is ...
