Abstract: Two general methods are described for preparing unsymmetrical secondary phosphine oxides. One in-volves displacement of alkoxide from an ester of a monosubstituted phosphinic acid by a Grignard reagent; the other, reduction of an ester of a disubstituted phosphinic acid by lithium aluminum hydride.
