Abstract Racemic S-(carboxymethyl) cysteine [(R, S)-2] obtained from racemic cysteine is resolved via its ammonium salt (R, S)-3 by preferential crystallization procedure. Furthermore,(R, S)-2 forms with optically active amines separable, diastereomeric salts.
