Abstract: The oxidation of p-fluorophenyl p-fluorobenzenethiolsulfinate (la), ArS (O) SAr, to the corresponding thiolsulfonate, ArSOzSAr (2a), by peracetic acid, and other peracids, at- 20 OC in chloroform has been studied by I9F NMR. These studies show that the disulfide ArSSAr is not formed in detectable amounts during the course of the oxidation, thereby ruling out a mechanism for the oxidation of aryl thioisulfinates by peracids proposed by ...
