q5-C5H5) Fe (CO),(1, 2-cycloheptadiene) OS02CF3, the first example of a M (I1) complex of a sevenmembered-ring allene, has been synthesized by reaction of trimethylsilyl triflate with (q5-C5H5)(CO) ZFe-(7-methoxycycloheptene) in methylene chloride at-78" C. The complex is fluxional (E,= 13.9 kcal/mol) and reacts with NazC03/ethanol to give the ethyl ether 23 of expected regiochemistry. The triflate salt of the allene complex decomposes at room ...
