o-Akynyl-substituted a-diazoacetophenones undergo facile cyclization to indenone derivatives upon treatment with catalytic quantities of Rh (I1) carboxylates. A variety of structural influences were encountered by varying the nature of the substituent group attached to the alkyne carbon atom.
