H 2 0 n-PrI PhCH, Br PhCH, Br PhCH, Br Me1 ylides 8. Debutylation was not observed when a solution of 8a, in either chloroform containing 1 equiv of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) or benzene containing 2 equiv of p-toluenesulfonic acid, was heated at 50" C for 4 h. Debutylation was ob~ ed in the presence of larger quantities of acid, however. With 5 equiv of TFA in chloroform, nearly complete disappearance of 8a occurred in 8 h at 50" C, while ...
