Regarding 2-anthrylethylenes which undergo a photochemical cis-to-trans one-way isomerization, their preparative methods are presented. The isomerization of ArCH= CHPh and ArCH= CH (2-naphthyl)(Ar: 2-anthryl) proceeds through a quantum chain process slightly more efficiently than ArCH= CH t Bu. The origin of the high efficiency in the quantum chain process of these ethylenes is discussed.
